Ok, I cannot claim that this is the absolute best thing out there, but it is the best thing that I’ve found! If you’re looking for an alternative deodorant, try using after shave.
Yeah, I thought it sounded strange, too. But after I tried it and had gone an entire day without stinking and without dealing with “coconut oil” pits, I became an instant fan. Bye-bye, deodorant. Bring on the after shave!
This is a great alternative to all-natural deodorants. Now, I like the concept of natural deodorant (chemical free, aluminum free) but I never liked the feel of natural deodorants. They tend to feel greasy. After shave is not greasy! And, it is also chemical free. Many after shaves are made with three or four ingredients: that’s it. It dries on your skin within a few moments and the scent lasts all day. Boom. Problem solved.
Traditional deodorants actually stop you from sweating. This is NOT healthy. Your body needs to sweat in order to rid itself of toxins. So sweating is a GOOD thing. The trick is: finding a way to keep sweating without smelling. Well, I think after shave is a great answer.
Now, I am thankful that my husband has a nice selection of after shaves (he is an avid wet-shaver) so because of that, I have a number of lovely scents at my disposal. However, if you have never owned after shave before, it can be found online from many different artisan companies who make all-natural, chemical free products, (I love Razorock products) and it is NOT expensive.
So, all this is to say: I’ve found an amazing alternative to nasty-feeling deodorants and just wanted to share it with you.
Constipation stinks. (At least, it does once the blockage is finally released). I don’t struggle with constipation very often but when I do, I’m quick to try and relieve it. There are a plethora of laxative options out there and if you’re like me, you’ve tried a handful of them. Recently, however, I’ve learned of one that I’d never tried before: chipotle peppers.
You can purchase a jar or can of these helpful hot peppers at just about any grocery store, and they won’t cost you more than a few dollars. When your system needs some assistance, simply spread a tablespoon or two of chipotles on your next meal and chow down. Some chipotles are sold whole; if that is the case, I recommend trying a half of one with your meal. (If you’re not a fan of spicy food, have some milk ready to ease the burn). They really aren’t terribly spicy and you won’t need to consume much in order to achieve the desired effect.
The first time I ate some chipotle peppers was at the supper hour and I was sitting on the toilet the very next morning. Cleared out! It was great. I never even had stomach or gas pains. Eating chipotle peppers is a great way to beat being bound up. It’s a nice natural alternative to pills and powdered drinks. The next time you’re feeling blocked up, give these a try!
One of the first nasty things I dealt with as a new mom was thrush. My baby had gotten it, and so had I. Thrush is a yeast infection that thrives off of sugar. Since formula and breast milk are sweet, it is not uncommon for young babies to develop this infection. Thrush appears in the baby’s mouth as small white dots or white patches, and can make nursing very painful. It can also infect mom’s nipples. Two ways to recognize thrush on the nipples are: very bright red coloring to the nipples, and sharp “electric” shock type feelings that seem to pulse through the breasts during or after a nursing session.
Baby and I used a series of home remedies to cure the infection, and it worked for us. I had heard that the medicine that doctors usually prescribe for thrush contains sugars, which is bad because thrush thrives off of sugar. So I did a little research and tried out a home remedy regimen instead. Here is what we did.
First, we needed to kill the infection. To kill the yeast, we used gentian violet: a purple dye used as an antiseptic to help kill the yeast. We found a little bottle of it at our local pharmacy. When searching for it, make sure you get a 1% solution bottle. Dip a q-tip into the bottle and paint the dye on your nipples. (You will probably look like an alien; that’s how I felt anyway). Keep clothing away from your nipples for a little while in order to let the dye dry. Then dab another q-tip in the dye and gently swab it in your baby’s mouth. Try to focus on the areas where you notice the white dots or patches. Your baby’s mouth and lips will turn very purple, but the dye washes away in a day or two. Baby will not feel any pain or notice any kind of strange taste. Do this treatment once a day for up to three days. We didn’t see results right away but my baby definitely had less trouble nursing after the second day. That’s the main thing. The infection needs to be killed.
Additionally, my husband and I also boiled all of the nursing pump parts and bottle parts after each feeding (I was pumping and bottle feeding my baby for a few days because nursing was getting painful for both of us). I cut out almost all sugar and alcohol from my diet and also took a probiotic for two weeks. Another very helpful idea is to make a “mouth wash” for the baby by adding a teaspoon of baking soda to a half cup of water. Dip a q-tip in that and swab baby’s mouth. You can also do this on your nipples. Yeast cannot thrive in salt (baking soda). This is a great thing to do in addition to the gentian violet treatment.
These are the home remedies that worked for us. If yeast infects baby or me again, I will definitely reuse these remedies.
